Ransomware Threats Persist on a Global Scale

In today’s digital landscape, ransomware continues to loom large. Delinea’s recent report paints a stark picture, showing that 69% of global organizations faced ransomware attacks in the past year. What’s particularly alarming is that more than a quarter of these organizations suffered multiple breaches.

In the U.S., the situation is grim. Ransomware attacks surged from affecting 53% of businesses in 2023 to 71% in 2024. In a silver lining, fewer companies are complying with attackers’ demands, with a decrease in ransom payouts from 76% to 57%. However, recovery remains a major hurdle—only 42% of affected U.S. firms manage to reboot their operations within a week.

Amid these threats, many businesses are bolstering their defenses with cyber insurance. Yet, not all companies are on the same page when it comes to adoption. Larger organizations are more likely to adopt cyber insurance compared to their smaller counterparts. Experts advise employing best practices like least-privilege identity controls, multi-factor authentication, offline backups, and thorough employee training to mitigate risks effectively.
