Cloudflare Integrates Post-Quantum Encryption into SASE Platform

Cloudflare is making headlines as the first Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) provider to weave post-quantum encryption standards into its Cloudflare One platform. This leap forward brings strong encryption into the fold, securing connections between clients’ infrastructures and Cloudflare’s expansive global network.

This strategic move aims to align with the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology’s push for updated cryptographic algorithms by 2030, preparing for a post-quantum landscape. It’s also a proactive measure against ‘harvest now, decrypt later’ attacks, where cybercriminals hoard encrypted data to crack it when technology advances.

Cloudflare had already unveiled post-quantum encryption in its Zero Trust Network Access product. Now, they’ve widened this security blanket to include wide area networking applications. The upgrade rapidly reroutes encrypted traffic to dependable data centers if one goes offline, adhering to the latest industry standards for compatibility.

Matthew Prince, CEO and co-founder, emphasized that this upgrade boosts both speed and reliability of the SASE platform, prepping it for the quantum future. “From day one, we’ve aimed to incorporate post-quantum defenses into our network without the hassle of hardware upgrades or extra costs,” Prince noted, ensuring the protection extends seamlessly into tomorrow.

By making post-quantum standards routine in its SASE framework, Cloudflare is not only future-proofing security but doing so without complications or expenses—a win for users everywhere.
