Google has launched a new AI-powered feature in Google Drive aimed at thwarting ransomware, primarily targeting desktop systems. This smart technology suspends file synchronization at the first sign of suspicious activity, giving you a seamless path to recover your files without the usual hassle. The AI has been trained with an extensive dataset of real-life ransomware incidents.

When a potential threat is detected, you’ll get instant notifications both on your desktop and via email. The recovery process is simple: just a few clicks on the Drive web interface, skipping the expensive and time-consuming recovery methods of the past. IT admins also get notified through the Admin console and can view detailed logs for further analysis.

This AI is engineered to recognize ransomware by examining millions of real-world cases, with a keen focus on large-scale file encryptions. Detecting unusual file changes, it halts cloud syncing to prevent further harm. As new threats surface, the AI adapts, learning from fresh malware while leveraging threat insights from VirusTotal to enhance security.
