Welinq’s Breakthrough Sale: Bringing Quantum Memory to Slovakia

Welinq has achieved a significant milestone by selling its QDrive quantum memory system to the Institute of Physics within the Slovak Academy of Sciences. This exciting development takes part in the Slovak Quantum Communication Infrastructure (skQCI), a national project dedicated to enhancing secure quantum networking. This effort harmonizes with the EuroQCI initiative, striving for a quantum-compatible network across Europe.

This successful transaction marks an important moment for Welinq, showcasing the transition from cutting-edge research to real-world applications. The QDrive system is notably compact and can operate at room temperature, bypassing the need for cryogenic cooling. It leverages laser-cooled Rubidium-87 atoms to manage quantum data efficiently. QDrive stands out in the market with over 90% efficiency in storing and recalling single photons and extends storage times up to 200 microseconds. These capabilities are pivotal for overcoming optical fiber networks’ distance challenges, allowing for better quantum state management.

Building a Quantum-Ready Framework in Slovakia

The integration of QDrive into Slovakia’s skQCI project marks a key stride in building a quantum-secure framework for vital national entities, including the Presidential Palace and the National Security Authority. This move highlights Welinq’s strategic hardware-software synergy. Moreover, the company is looking ahead to expanding QDrive’s potential for “quantum-augmented data centers,” where these systems could seamlessly connect quantum processing units (QPUs) to share resources across separate architectures.

For those interested in technical details, Welinq’s official announcement provides a full overview of the QDrive’s capabilities. Accessing this information will offer insights into how this system stands to revolutionize quantum communications.
