SEALSQ, Seoul Unveil Post-Quantum Semiconductor Center for Secure Future
SEALSQ Teams Up with Seoul for a Quantum Leap in Semiconductors
In a move that’s sure to make waves in the tech world, SEALSQ Corp has joined forces with the Seoul Metropolitan Government to put Seoul firmly on the map as a leader in post-quantum technology. The new partnership aims to establish a cutting-edge research and design center for post-quantum semiconductor technology in South Korea’s vibrant capital. This collaborative effort, spearheaded by Mayor Oh Se-hoon, promises to identify strategic sites and form alliances with local talent to elevate South Korea’s semiconductor savvy.
The center’s mission? To stay one step ahead of cyber threats by advancing quantum-resistant cryptographic technology. This includes developing secure RISC-V chip architectures, personalizing chips for IoT devices, and embedding quantum-proof encryption in satellite systems. The project aims to boost South Korea’s standing as a powerhouse in both semiconductors and aerospace.
South Korea: A Titan in Technology
Korea is no stranger to tech dominance—it commands nearly 17% of the global semiconductor market, especially in memory chips. With the government’s commitment of $136 million towards quantum R&D in 2025, Korea is positioning itself to thrive as secure quantum communication technologies take center stage. The timing is perfect; the post-quantum market is predicted to skyrocket to upwards of $9 billion by the early 2030s.
This new center marries semiconductor innovation with state-of-the-art security strategies. The approach is visionary, protecting essential tech infrastructure against looming quantum threats. SEALSQ’s initiative to incorporate quantum-resistant designs into satellites highlights its resolve in ensuring global digital security.
Building Global Networks
SEALSQ’s ambitions aren’t limited to Korea. Their strategy extends globally, targeting partnerships across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. The focus on integrating post-quantum tech in RISC-V architectures demonstrates its commitment to staying ahead in compliance with international post-quantum standards set by NIST.
David Fergusson of SEALSQ underscored the significance, “As semiconductors become vital across sectors, securing next-gen chips is crucial.” Meanwhile, Mayor Oh remarked, “Our collaboration with SEALSQ lays the groundwork for leading in semiconductors and pioneering in quantum security.”
With CEO Carlos Moreira highlighting the MoU’s pivotal role, it’s clear SEALSQ is poised to lead the charge in global post-quantum advancements, leveraging South Korea as a key player.
