Samsung S3SSE2A: Pioneering Hardware-Based Post-Quantum Security

Last Updated: December 6, 2025By

Celebrating Innovation in Semiconductor Technology

At this year’s CES Innovation Awards, Samsung Semiconductor secured seven prestigious accolades, underscoring their dedication to pushing the boundaries of semiconductor technology. Notably, the S3SSE2A was honored with the Best of Innovation award in Cybersecurity, also earning recognition in Embedded Technologies. This advanced security platform not only safeguards against current cyber threats, but it’s also built to resist potential future attacks from quantum technology.

We had the chance to speak with the innovative minds behind this project, including Task Leaders Stanley Yoo, Hyunjae Kang, and engineers Jicheol Kim and In Lee from Samsung’s Security & Power Product Development Team.

Breaking New Ground: The S3SSE2A

Stanley Yoo introduced the S3SSE2A as the pioneering Secure Element in the industry, integrating hardware-based Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) while achieving CC certification. Its hybrid design supports both prevailing security algorithms and PQC, offering robust defense mechanisms against today’s and future cyber threats.

Unlike reliance on conventional methods like RSA and ECC, S3SSE2A embeds PQC directly into its hardware, future-proofing security frameworks. This bold move positions Samsung at the forefront of evolving cryptographic standards, ready to tackle the complexities brought by quantum computing.

Ensuring Long-Term Security

Jicheol Kim highlighted the importance of PQC’s lattice-based structures, which even quantum computers find challenging to compromise. Integrating PQC not only boosts performance but also extends the lifespan of data protection measures. With the risk of “Harvest Now, Decrypt Later,” taking proactive steps with S3SSE2A is crucial for future security.

Hyunjae Kang emphasized the chip’s adaptable architecture, anticipating global PQC standardization. Such readiness demonstrates Samsung’s commitment to maintaining a leading edge amidst evolving threats, ensuring resilient security solutions for tomorrow’s challenges.

The Versatile Impact of S3SSE2A

The S3SSE2A serves as a vital component in sectors requiring ironclad security, such as mobile devices, IoT, and industrial systems. Jicheol Kim explained how the chip strengthens security for operations like digital payments and user authentications, especially critical for smartphones and tablets.

Hyunjae Kang noted the chip’s compact design makes it perfect for IoT environments, where comprehensive security is essential. In industries like smart manufacturing, its real-time authentication abilities uphold operational integrity, showcasing its pivotal role in enhanced security frameworks.

A Quantum Leap in Future Security

In Lee foresees a transition to PQC to counter quantum computing threats. Stanley Yoo reiterated the importance of establishing a universal security framework that blends traditional and PQC methods for cloud and IoT applications. Far more than just a chip, the S3SSE2A marks a significant stride toward safeguarding data in the quantum era.

This breakthrough solution will be featured at CES 2026, highlighting Samsung’s pathbreaking efforts at the Las Vegas Convention Center from January 6 to 9, 2026. To explore the capabilities of the S3SSE2A, visit Samsung’s official page.
