AI Data Sovereignty: Macquarie Partners with Dell in Australia

Last Updated: August 18, 2025By

Exciting New AI Partnership Between Macquarie Data Centres and Dell

Macquarie Data Centres and Dell Technologies are teaming up to bring advanced AI infrastructure to Sydney. This collaboration merges Dell’s robust AI solutions with Macquarie’s local expertise in hosting. At the heart of this effort is the Dell AI Factory, supercharged by NVIDIA technology, which will be deployed across Macquarie’s existing facilities and the upcoming IC3 Super West site, set to launch in 2026.

The main objective is to empower Australian businesses to run AI operations locally, while meticulously adhering to national data sovereignty and compliance standards. David Hirst, CEO of Macquarie Data Centres, sees this as a strategic move that aligns with government efforts to foster AI development in Australia. He emphasizes the significance of integrating international technology with local infrastructure to securely leverage AI opportunities within the country.

The IC3 Super West facility is engineered with flexibility, accommodating various power and cooling demands crucial for AI and high-performance computing. This includes support for both air-cooled and liquid-cooled systems, offering scalability to meet growing AI needs. As AI technology evolves, Gavin Dudley of Macquarie underscores the importance of a versatile data centre that adapts quickly, ensuring clients can transition seamlessly from one cooling method to another to optimize workloads.

Understanding the Dell AI Factory

Integrated with NVIDIA technology, the Dell AI Factory combines Dell’s robust servers and storage solutions with cutting-edge AI software. It features NVIDIA AI Enterprise, designed for production-level AI, and NVIDIA NIM for efficient models, making AI deployment more accessible. In addition, predefined blueprints from Dell and NVIDIA speed up applications like enterprise chatbots and data analytics.

Dell’s professional services play a critical role in overcoming common AI challenges such as skill shortages and data quality issues, as identified in a study by the Enterprise Strategy Group. They provide guidance on use-case selection, AI model development, and system integration while setting up governance frameworks.

Jamie Humphrey from Dell highlights the partnership’s goal to enhance AI access for organizations in Australia, promoting AI as a competitive asset in a secure, scalable manner. This collaboration will bolster Macquarie’s data centre capabilities, adding 47 MW of capacity at the Macquarie Park campus and supporting both AI-focused and cloud-based projects.

The partnership, showcased at a Sydney event on August 21, 2025, marks a significant step in Macquarie’s long-standing alliance with Dell, strengthening their offering with AI-specific capabilities.

The event will be held at the Sydney International Convention Centre from 8:00 AM to 8:30 PM. To secure your spot, register at the Sydney Cloud Data Centre Convention 2025.
