P33, joining hands with the National Quantum Algorithm Center (NQAC), has launched a new research initiative called the Grand Challenges program. This aims to fund postdoctoral research with a focus on practical quantum technology applications. Each grant totals $125,000 and highlights collaboration among local universities, quantum firms, and industry partners. The goal? To foster projects that have real-world relevance, right here in Illinois.

This initiative coincides with PsiQuantum’s recent construction start at the Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park, showcasing Chicago’s leap into quantum innovation. The Grand Challenges program isn’t just about spurring innovation but elevating Illinois as a quantum leader. Brad Henderson, CEO of P33, shared that the program unites top-tier quantum researchers with industry leaders, forming a bridge between cutting-edge research and industry needs.

Opportunities and Guidelines for Grant Applicants

Applications for this exciting venture are open but come with conditions. At least one partner must be an Illinois-based academic institution, teaming up with a quantum tech firm and a non-quantum industry partner. The aim is to transform quantum breakthroughs into solutions for finance, materials science, and energy challenges.

To qualify, academic and quantum partners need established links with IQMP. Industry collaborators are welcomed from diverse fields like pharmaceuticals and energy.
