D-Wave Quantum’s Q4 Decline: Future Outlook & Competitive Insights
Understanding D-Wave Quantum’s Recent Performance
D-Wave Quantum, known by the ticker QBTS, recently reported a mixed bag of financial results. The company saw a drop in fourth-quarter bookings for 2025, totaling $13.4 million, which is a 27% decrease compared to the same period last year. That previous year had a major boost from a significant eight-figure system sale. However, if you compare this to the previous quarter, there’s a massive 471% spike in bookings from $2.4 million, making it the second-best quarter ever for D-Wave.
This surge is mainly due to a €10 million deal relating to a multi-year contract in Italy for half the capacity of an Advantage2 annealing quantum system. This system is pivotal for building a state-of-the-art quantum computing facility in Lombardy.
Looking into 2026, things seem promising for D-Wave. With bookings already surpassing previous annual totals, they’ve closed a $20 million deal with Florida Atlantic University and a $10 million QCaaS contract with a Fortune 100 company. These strategic moves set the stage for a promising future.
