Nokia and Telefónica Partner for AI-Ready Networks in Spain

Nokia has teamed up with Telefónica to deliver cutting-edge networking solutions across new Edge data centers in Spain. This collaboration aims to establish AI-ready digital infrastructure on a national scale, reinforcing Spain’s position as a leader in digital innovation.

These new Edge nodes, powered by Nokia’s solutions, will enhance AI capabilities, B2B services, and Telco Cloud solutions, benefiting a variety of sectors including health, education, and industry. Nokia’s technology ensures smooth connectivity within the data centers and links to external networks, supporting Telefónica’s commitment to data sovereignty and innovation.

Exclusive Rights and Operational Efficiency

Nokia has been granted exclusive rights to deploy networking capabilities for Telefónica’s Edge centers, with most already operational. This includes the prominent Tecno-Alcalá site, one of the world’s largest data centers. The partnership emphasizes operational efficiency and a unified technical approach, building on a successful pilot initiative from 2024.

Sergio Sánchez, Telefónica España’s Chief Technology and Information Officer, shared his enthusiasm: “Nokia has proven itself as a reliable partner in connectivity, helping us advance our digital infrastructure.”

David Heard from Nokia highlighted the importance of this collaboration, noting its role in facilitating Telefónica’s transition to a distributed Edge architecture.
