Marquis Sues SonicWall After Devastating Ransomware Breach

Marquis Files Lawsuit Against SonicWall Over Ransomware Incident

A Texas-based financial services company, Marquis Software Solutions, is taking legal action against SonicWall, alleging that a recent ransomware attack resulted from a compromise in its firewall system. This follows a breach related to SonicWall’s firewall service.

In their lawsuit, which seeks a jury trial, Marquis argues that a cybersecurity event in 2025 exposed critical security details of both the firm and its clients using SonicWall’s firewall cloud backup service.

Allegations and Security Implications

The allegations state that cybercriminals accessed Marquis’s internal networks and deployed ransomware by exploiting SonicWall’s firewall configuration settings, including emergency access codes. Although SonicWall hasn’t confirmed these breach details, Marquis claims that a February 2025 API modification created a vulnerability that attackers exploited.

“We managed to swiftly secure our network and customer data; however, our investigation indicated that our vulnerability was mainly due to SonicWall’s breach and their failure to notify us of the potential compromise of our firewall protection,” said Satin Mirchandani, CEO of Marquis.

This lawsuit underscores growing concerns about cybersecurity and the duty of service providers to protect client data.
