SQC Unveils Scalable 11-Qubit Silicon Quantum Processor
Silicon Quantum Computing’s 11-Qubit Processor: A Quantum Leap
Silicon Quantum Computing (SQC) is making impressive progress in quantum technology with the unveiling of an 11-qubit processor. This innovation, highlighted in the journal Nature, takes a unique approach by improving qubit fidelity as the processor scales. Constructed using isotopically enriched silicon-28, it boasts gate fidelities ranging from 99.10% to a stellar 99.99%. Traditional quantum systems often struggle with performance issues as qubits increase due to noise and crosstalk, but SQC seems to have found a way around this challenge.
Innovative Design and Key Advancements
This revolutionary processor is designed with precision using STM lithography to place phosphorus atoms in silicon with a 0.13-nanometer accuracy. It includes two spin registers, interacting through electron exchange. By using nuclear spins for data (T2Hahn times up to 660 ms) and electron spins as auxiliary qubits, SQC enables efficient readouts and qubit management.
- Exceptional Fidelity: Single-qubit gate fidelities reach up to 99.99%, while two-qubit CROT gate fidelities are at 99.64%.
- Quantum Links: A fast (1.25 microseconds) quantum link between spin registers supports non-local entanglement.
- Streamlined Calibration: An efficient calibration protocol reduces measurements from 96 to two, enhancing scalability.
- Entanglement Demonstration: Successful entanglement of up to eight nuclear spins marks progress toward fault-tolerant computing.
Combining precision and scalability, SQC’s breakthroughs aim to facilitate systems with millions of qubits. This success coincides with their advancement to Stage B in DARPA’s Quantum Benchmarking Initiative and the delivery of a system to the Australian Defence sector.
