Ingram Micro Data Breach: Ransomware Hits 42,000 Affected
Data Breach Alert: Ingram Micro’s Cybersecurity Incident
In a recent newsworthy event, IT services giant Ingram Micro faced a cyberattack that affected about 42,000 individuals. This breach was a result of a ransomware attack on July 3, 2025. In response, the company swiftly pulled several systems offline, leading to notable service disruptions. However, Ingram Micro managed a quick recovery, restoring all operations by July 9.
The breach specifically targeted records of employees and job applicants. The company shared, “Our investigation revealed that an unauthorized individual accessed files from our internal repositories between July 2 and 3.” The breached data included personal information like names, birth dates, Social Security numbers, and employment details, along with identification numbers from passports and driver’s licenses.
Response and Consequences
Ingram Micro has notified the Maine Attorney General’s Office and reported that 42,521 individuals were affected. To mitigate fallout, they are offering two years of free credit monitoring and identity protection services to those impacted.
While the company remains tight-lipped about the identity of the attackers, a group named Safepay has taken credit, claiming they stole 3.5 terabytes of data. This group allegedly released the data publicly in August, hinting at Ingram Micro’s refusal to meet their ransom demands.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the growing cybersecurity threats organizations face today, emphasizing the need for stringent protective measures. As data breaches continue across various industries, the urgency for enhanced digital security protocols cannot be overstated.
