Deutsche Telekom and NVIDIA Launch Major AI Initiative

Deutsche Telekom and NVIDIA are joining forces to create a groundbreaking €1 billion Industrial AI Cloud based in Munich, poised to revolutionize AI in Germany. By deploying up to 10,000 NVIDIA GPUs, this new facility promises an impressive 0.5 exaFLOPS of computing power, significantly boosting Germany’s AI capabilities by nearly 50%. The project is set to become operational by early 2026, marking a major milestone in enhancing the country’s technological infrastructure.

Deutsche Telekom CEO Tim Höttges shared, “Our mechanical engineering excellence has always been our strength. With AI, we can enhance product quality and maintain Europe’s competitive edge. In just six months, we’re transforming AI plans into a robust German reality.”

European AI Sovereignty

This endeavor is not just about technology but sovereignty. It ensures that companies can develop AI models within a secure, regulation-compliant framework right here in Europe. This is increasingly crucial as geopolitical shifts push organizations to reconsider the safety of their data. NVIDIA’s CEO Jensen Huang sums it up: “Germany’s engineering prowess is now entering an AI-enhanced era.”

The Industrial AI Cloud will work within Deutsche Telekom’s T Cloud ecosystem, streamlining AI integration and focusing on strict adherence to European data laws. This will help maintain Europe’s leading stance in AI technology and industrial strength.

Building the Future of Industry

The cloud’s potential applications are vast, including next-generation digital twins, robotics, and large language models. NVIDIA Omniverse’s capabilities will allow companies to virtually test production processes, boosting efficiency. Agile Robots, an early participant, plans to use the cloud for enhancing precision robotics, and these very robots will aid in constructing the facility itself.

Startups like Perplexity will benefit as well, developing large language models locally, maintaining stringent German data residency standards.

Constructing AI Infrastructure

The Munich site will be revamped with state-of-the-art NVIDIA hardware, extensive storage, and reliable connectivity. This setup promises high energy efficiency and robust security, all connected through advanced fiber-optic lines.

By championing data sovereignty, Deutsche Telekom and NVIDIA are not just building a data center; they’re constructing a future where Europe’s AI resilience and innovation thrive globally.

What This Means for ERP

For ERP professionals, the integration of SAP with this AI Cloud ensures data stays within European borders, aligning with EU regulations. This allows enterprise users to leverage AI without data leaving the continent, effectively marrying compliance with cutting-edge technology.

This endeavor empowers companies to refine operations using AI-driven insights, improving decision-making and operational efficiency in manufacturing and logistics. With the support of NVIDIA’s high-capacity systems and commitment to security, companies can confidently innovate and elevate their business processes while remaining compliant.
