Unicloud Africa Expands Sovereign Cloud Infrastructure Across Six Nations
Unicloud Africa Paves the Way for Sovereign Cloud Services
In a move set to redefine Africa’s cloud landscape, Unicloud Africa is rolling out its sovereign cloud services across six key nations: Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Zambia, Senegal, and Mozambique. Announced on October 27, this initiative aims to meet the soaring demand for local digital services, moving away from reliance on international cloud giants.
Unicloud Africa’s CEO, Ladi Okuneye, highlights the importance of this shift. “For too long, African enterprises have been bogged down by the costs and compliance challenges of international clouds. With our services, we’re charting a path towards digital and financial independence,” Okuneye noted. The project focuses on financial sustainability, local sovereignty, and high performance, making it a game-changer for the continent.
Features and Impact of Unicloud Africa’s Cloud Services
Unicloud Africa’s cloud platform stands out by allowing billing in local currencies and eliminating data egress fees, which enhances transparency. Local processing and storage of sensitive information ensure alignment with regional regulations in sectors such as finance and healthcare. The platform promises a robust 99.999% uptime and meets international security standards like ISO 27001, bolstering trust in its capabilities.
This initiative supports the “One Cloud, One Africa” vision and collaborates with TouchNet, known for creating scalable infrastructure solutions. Despite Africa’s growing digital needs, the continent only houses about 211 data centers, with many concentrated in a few countries. Unicloud’s launch is expected to foster innovation, cut costs, and enhance data sovereignty, stepping towards a self-reliant, tech-driven African future.
