BTQ and ICTK Launch $15M Quantum-Secure Chip Investment Initiative
BTQ Technologies and ICTK’s Strategic Partnership
In a major move, Vancouver-based BTQ Technologies has teamed up with ICTK, South Korea’s leading secure chip manufacturer. This partnership marks the beginning of a promising USD 15 million initiative aimed at developing the Quantum Compute in Memory (QCIM) chip, a breakthrough in the realm of quantum-secure technology. Given the escalating cybersecurity threats posed by quantum computing, this alliance couldn’t be more timely. It’s part of South Korea’s push to lead in quantum safety within vital sectors.
The collaboration involves two key areas. There’s a Development Agreement setting up a plan to design, test, and certify the QCIM chip. Then, the Investment Agreement ensures BTQ invests in ICTK, with ICTK contributing through cost-sharing and preferred manufacturing deals. This framework promises a streamlined path to bringing the QCIM chip to market.
Technology and Market Impact
The QCIM chip integrates BTQ’s advanced cash cryptographic acceleration with top-notch post-quantum cryptography (PQC). This ensures it supports smooth cryptographic protocol upgrades without disrupting ongoing user operations. Remarkably, the chip performs up to five times faster than current hardware, handling a million digital signatures per second using minimal energy.
ICTK’s expertise in secure elements and its vast industrial experience bolster the QCIM chip’s development. This synergy will fast-track mass production, rigorous testing, and certification, making swift deployment across telecom and finance sectors possible. Riding on South Korea’s recent emphasis on quantum technology for defense, this product aligns seamlessly with both government strategies and international demands.
Olivier Roussy Newton of BTQ highlights that this alliance simplifies integrating quantum-safe security into existing semiconductor frameworks, while ICTK’s Jungwon Lee assures robust security meeting market standards. Together, BTQ and ICTK are setting new benchmarks in safeguarding financial and digital assets against quantum threats.
