Elevate Quantum’s New Mexico Initiative

In an exciting move for quantum tech development, Elevate Quantum has launched the Quantum Learning Lab (QuLL) in Albuquerque. Aiming to nurture skilled professionals in the field of quantum technology, this project is built in partnership with Central New Mexico Community College (CNM), Sandia National Laboratories, and the University of New Mexico. Kicking off with the Quantum Technician Bootcamp on September 29, the lab offers participants an opportunity to dive into practical training in cutting-edge fields like optics and electronics.

This initiative, supported by federal funds courtesy of New Mexico’s Congressional Delegation, is focused on creating a steady stream of talent for careers in quantum computing, sensing, and communication. With technician roles offering salaries between $65,000 and $85,000, the prospects are promising. The program also highlights New Mexico’s ambition to become a major hub in quantum information science and engineering.

The Quantum Technician Bootcamp Experience

The bootcamp is keen on combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience, ensuring students get to work with real-world quantum hardware. Traditionally, such skills were acquired through advanced degrees, but QuLL offers an accessible path to acquiring them with no need for a lengthy academic commitment.

Dr. Megan Ivory from Sandia National Laboratories notes the importance of practical skills over advanced degrees, which QuLL addresses by catering to those who thrive in a hands-on environment. Thanks to the support of New Mexico senators, this initiative represents a significant step in establishing a strong foundation for quantum science and technology statewide.

Applications for the Quantum Technician Bootcamp are open through CNM Ingenuity, promising participants engaging, transformative career opportunities in a condensed 10-week program.
