SEALSQ, Seoul Launch Quantum-Safe Semiconductor Center for Future Security
SEALSQ Teams Up with Seoul to Launch a Quantum Leap
SEALSQ Corp, a leader in semiconductor and post-quantum tech, has joined forces with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and Invest Seoul. Their alliance comes under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at setting up a Post-Quantum Semiconductor Center in Seoul. Signed by Mayor Oh Se-hoon, this MoU is a big deal. The idea is to create a hub for the personalization, research, and design of post-quantum semiconductors. Both SEALSQ and the Seoul authorities are committed to finding the right local partners and ideal locations to make this vision a reality.
Building a Stronghold Against Cyber Threats
This cutting-edge facility is set to be a game-changer. It will focus on embedding quantum-resistant cryptographic keys into semiconductor devices, fortifying them against potential quantum attacks. The center’s highlights include:
- Researching RISC-V chip designs with post-quantum cryptography.
- Personalizing and testing devices for IoT applications.
- Enhancing satellite systems with quantum-resistant encryption.
- Boosting South Korea’s share in semiconductor and aerospace innovation.
By using RISC-V architectures with post-quantum cryptography, the center aligns itself with NIST standards, setting a benchmark in cybersecurity. South Korea’s semiconductor market share and government-backed quantum research certify its pivotal role in this initiative, driving the global need for post-quantum cryptography as the world gears up to secure vital communication infrastructures.
Leading the Charge in Post-Quantum Innovation
SEALSQ’s strategy involves expanding globally via Public-Private Partnerships, with similar projects underway elsewhere. Focusing on RISC-V chip designs helps ensure international compliance and positions SEALSQ at the forefront of the post-quantum tech space. SEALSQ Director David Fergusson mentions the vital role of secure next-gen chips in supporting South Korea’s economy across sectors. Mayor Oh Se-hoon envisions great growth through this partnership, reinforcing South Korea’s stance in semiconductors and cybersecurity.
SEALSQ’s CEO, Carlos Moreira, emphasizes, “This initiative addresses the urgent need to protect infrastructure from quantum threats. We aim to be a part of Korea’s drive in post-quantum innovation, partnering with top local firms to bring advanced chip technology to the nation.”
