Exploring Data Sovereignty: How Art Challenges Digital Control
Exploring Data Control and Sovereignty with DATAS
Data control and personal sovereignty are becoming critical issues in our digital era. A new initiative, led by the Goethe-Institut, Rudolfinum Gallery, and MeetFactory, is diving deep into these topics. Over the next eighteen months, this international collaboration, involving partners from Slovenia, Estonia, and Ukraine, will explore how emerging technologies affect our lives.
Julia Bailey, director of Rudolfinum Gallery, shares, “The integration of new technologies into art and society sparks important debates. Through DATAS, we want to shed light on AI’s impact on the arts, question who owns our data, and safeguard individual freedoms.” The project will conclude with an exhibition on June 10, 2026, at Rudolfinum Gallery.
Artistic Perspectives on the Digital Age
Joining artists, cultural institutions, and the public, this initiative seeks to answer pressing questions about our digital world. Inka Jelínková Jurková of the Goethe-Institut highlights the need for artistic perspectives, noting, “We’re providing a counter-narrative to the normalization of digital surveillance.” This artistic journey begins with Belarusian artist Mark Cinkevich, who examines visual technologies and power dynamics, presenting his work in Prague.
Running until December 2026, the project, supported by the EU’s Creative Europe program, will feature residencies and workshops across participating countries, culminating in a major exhibition at the Rudolfinum Gallery. For more details, visit the initiative’s webpage.
