Pasqal Opens New Quantum Manufacturing Site in Québec

Pasqal is stepping into the lime light with the official launch of its first quantum processor manufacturing facility in Sherbrooke, Québec. What’s more, they have inked a deal to deliver a 100-qubit neutral-atom quantum processing unit to Distriq, part of the Quantum Innovation Zone. These moves are pivotal for Pasqal’s global expansion ambitions and place Québec firmly on the map in the world of quantum computing.

The facility, nestled inside the expansive Espace Quantique 1 complex, covers a hefty 50,000 square feet. This site is set on producing the latest quantum processing units to feed the growing appetite in North America. Pasqal’s foray into the Canadian market became official in 2023 when they snagged a $15 million loan from Investissement Québec, paving their path to expand. By planting roots in Canada, Pasqal joins the ranks as a leader in quantum computing hardware amidst Sherbrooke’s bubbling research and industrial scene.

Revolutionizing Quantum Computing for Canadian Industries

This isn’t just about new digs; the 100-qubit QPU designed for Distriq will be crafted and completed at Sherbrooke’s new site, providing Canadian research bodies with cutting-edge quantum computing capabilities. Slated for activation by Fall, this project is generously funded by a public-private partnership. This includes a $9.6 million loan from the Québec Ministry of Economy, Innovation and Energy, and generous support from Investissement Québec. Additionally, backing from the National Bank of Canada to the tune of $2.4 million, joined by $1.2 million from Canada Economic Development, fuels this innovation leap.
