Tencent Cloud and GoTo’s Impressive Cloud Migration

Exciting times are unfolding in Indonesia’s tech landscape. Tencent Cloud and GoTo Group have achieved a remarkable feat by migrating GoTo’s on-demand services to a newly built data center in Jakarta, managed by Tencent Cloud. This strategic move is part of one of Southeast Asia’s largest and most intricate cloud transitions. What’s truly impressive is that this monumental migration involved over 1,000 microservices and was completed in just under five hours – that’s faster than initially forecasted!

Ahead of this move, an extensive eight-month planning phase was crucial. Engineering teams from both Tencent Cloud and GoTo worked hand in hand, conducting thorough testing and collaboration to ensure the transition was as seamless as possible. Utilizing over 50 different Tencent Cloud products, such as Cloud Virtual Machine and Kubernetes Engine, they ran extensive rehearsals and fine-tuned implementations, ensuring the integrity and continuity of a vast array of databases throughout the migration.

Expanding Indonesia’s Cloud Capabilities

This migration also marked the opening of a third data center in Jakarta, increasing local zone capacities. With this expansion, Tencent Cloud significantly boosts Indonesia’s cloud infrastructure, which GoTo leveraged to strengthen its platform architecture for future scalability. Patrick Walujo, CEO of GoTo Group, praised the partnership with Tencent Cloud, emphasizing that this local infrastructure bolsters GoTo’s ability to offer a reliable user experience while complying with Indonesia’s data sovereignty regulations.

Poshu Yeung, Senior Vice President at Tencent Cloud International, reflected on the project’s success, underscoring their commitment to providing secure, advanced cloud technologies. In response to the skyrocketing demand for cloud services driven by global digital transformations, Tencent Cloud has indeed broadened its reach, now catering to over 10,000 enterprises across multiple sectors.
