The Chicago Quantum Exchange (CQE) has just announced a significant appointment. On June 1, Dr. Jean-Luc Cambier stepped into the role of Regional Innovation Officer for The Bloch Quantum Tech Hub. Backed by the US Economic Development Administration, Cambier’s new role dovetails with his rich background in federal R&D, making him CQE’s new in-house technical lead.
Cambier is set to drive strategic initiatives at The Bloch. His mission? To advance quantum technologies boosting economic and national security across the US. Additionally, he’s tasked with forming crucial alliances with industries to weave quantum solutions into their frameworks.
Strategic Vision and Collaboration
Cambier’s seasoned expertise is deemed vital by the founding director of the Chicago Quantum Exchange, David Awschalom. “Jean-Luc’s unique blend of skills and foresight is crucial for advancing our strategies and workforce initiatives,” Awschalom noted enthusiastically.
Before taking on this role, Cambier was instrumental as a program director for the US Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering. His leadership shone in projects like the Vannevar Bush Faculty Fellowship and international collaborations with countries including the UK and South Korea.
In his former positions, Cambier laid the groundwork for pioneering research under the US Department of Defense and NASA. This impressive portfolio positions him as the ideal guidestar for The Bloch’s ambitious agenda integrating Fortune 500 companies, startups, and non-profits in a unified effort to elevate US leadership in quantum technology.
Looking Ahead with the CQE
Anchored in Chicago, the CQE has a robust network comprising key partners like the US Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory and leading universities. With over 50 partners dedicated to quantum science, Cambier’s leadership aligns with the CQE’s objective to empower and interconnect quantum experts and industries across Illinois, Wisconsin, and Indiana.
His arrival coincides with a revitalized Tech Hubs program by the US Department of Commerce prioritizing national security and quality projects. Cambier’s leadership is anticipated to pave the way for fresh investments and advancements in quantum technology, setting The Bloch on a trajectory for significant growth.
The excitement is palpable as Cambier embarks on this journey with the CQE, an institution at the forefront of quantum innovation.
